Phycologia 42(3): 275-284. Holt, G. 1980a. A common green alga near the top of the shore, on rocks or other algae, on open coasts or in estuaries and harbours, where it may grow mixed with U. intestinalisor other species of the genus. It is better known as Enteromorpha prolifera, but Enteromorphais now considered to be part of the genus Ulva(Maggs et al., in Brodie et al, 2007). Enteromorpha prolifera (E. prolifera) tides have erupted frequently in the Yellow Sea and brought serious environmental problems to coastal sea since 2007. In order to research the influence of nutrients on E. prolifera growth, mesocosm experiments were carried out in the Yellow Sea in May 2012.
Herein, a composite hydrogel was prepared with water-soluble polysaccharides from Enteromorpha prolifera (PEP) cross-linked with boric acid and polyacrylamide cross-linked via polymerization (PAM) using a one-pot method. The dual-network of this hydrogel enabled it to have an ultratough mechanical strength. Enteromorpha prolifera (E. prolifera) contains complex sulfated polysaccharides that are resistant to biological degradation. Most organisms cannot digest biomass of E. prolifera, except Siganus oramin (S. oramin). This study was conducted to identify the bacteria in the intestine of S. oramin facilitating the digestion of E. prolifera polysaccharides (EPP).
Our preliminary study demonstrated that an ethyl acetate extract of Enteromorpha prolifera (EAEP) exhibited the strongest antioxidant activity compared to ethanol or water extracts.

Enteromorpha prolifera-derived carbon, a novel renewable material, possesses abundant functional groups, a high specific surface area and a large pore volume making it a promising candidate as a high-performance cathode material for lithium–sulfur batteries. Enteromorpha prolifera (Muell.) J. Agardh (Chlorophyta, Ulvophyceae), which is distributed widely in the inter-tidal zone of the ocean, is one of the most common fouling green algae. Activated carbon was prepared from Enteromorpha prolifera by zinc chloride activation. The adsorption behaviors of three reactive dyes (Reactive Red 23, Reactive Blue 171 and Reactive Blue 4) onto this biomass activated carbon were investigated in batch systems.
